Let me introduce you to this fantastic Textile work made by caring hands somewhere in the Andes of Peru... it's name is Aguayo or Awayo.
Aguayo is the crib of the quechua people, their babies are carried in it. It also is the symbol of their hard work and effort. Extended over the Pacha Mama (Mother earth) ?that beautifuly evoques the mother-like face of God? aguayo is as well, the table where families sit together around it and enjoy sharing their food. It represents the life of the Andean People.
And now it is available for you to decorate a special space in your home or your loved one's.
The central part of this Aguayo manta has been hand embroidered by the Quechua ladies that I work with, inspired by the fantastic nature that surrounds them and also representing couple's love with the love-birds in the centre.
These kind of aguayo are typically worn by the women around the Cusco and Puno region where they celebrate life and love and family through folkloric dances and praise the Pacha-Mama with them too.
